Green Crescent in Combatting Addiction

Sakarya University’s Applied Women Research Centre (SAUKAM) and our faculty organized a conference on “Green Crescent in Combatting Addiction.”

The Turkish Green Crescent Deputy Director General Sultan Işık attended the conference as a speaker.

In her speech, Sultan Işık gave information about addiction, how it develops, addiction cycle, addiction types, substance addiction, alcoholism, smoking, technology and gambling addictions, risk factors of addiction. She said smoking is the most widely used addictive substance in the world and she warned that electronic cigarettes are even more harmful than regular cigarettes. Işık noted that factors such as a decrease in school success, poor social skills, lack of attachment and interest between parents and children, and violent behaviors cause addiction. She also mentioned the support program for addicted people, addiction prevention activities and scientific studies on this subject.

After the conference, our Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bostancı and the deputy of SAUKAM, Hülya Terzioğlu presented a gift to Sultan Işık.
